In Death’s Dream Kingdom (Houndstooth)

In Death’s Dream Kingdom is a radical compilation project on London’s Houndstooth label, rethinking what a compilation can be in the streaming era.
25 artists from across the experimental and electronic spectrum were invited to take inspiration from T.S. Eliot’s The Hollow Men — specifically the phrase “in Death’s dream kingdom” — creating new works that explore dark, immersive sonic territory.

The compilation is opened by Otto Lindholm, setting the tone for a journey that unfolds track by track with texts and striking visuals by Taiwanese artist Jazz Szu-Ying Chen. IDDK is conceived not as a traditional album, but as an evolving audio-visual artefact: more than a playlist, less than a conventional record, yet unified by a vivid aesthetic.

The line-up spans ambient, noise and avant-garde (Abul Mogard, Pan Daijing, Roly Porter), through to club innovators (Hodge, Batu, Peder Mannerfelt) and boundary-defying artists like Gazelle Twin, Pye Corner Audio and Lanark Artefax.
Dark music for dark times — a new blueprint for the compilation format.

« Cain by Otto Lindholm with its tortured voices and shards of cello, is like William Blake soundtracked by Arthur Russell » – MOJO

« The set opens with Otto Lindholm’s Cain – all Ligeti / Xenakis style doom and dirge and cooling solar flares – and it sets a twilight tone that gratifyingly never lifts » – The Wire
