BOW
BOW is a Belgian string quintet featuring Margaret Hermant (violin), Benoît Leseure (violin), Jean-François Durdu (viola), Marine Horbaczewski (cello), and Cyrille de Haes (double bass).
Together, they unfold a deeply collective musical practice grounded in attentive listening, acoustic improvisation, and the exploration of dense, shifting, often hypnotic textures. Their language lives in the tension between freedom and form, immediacy and slow-building inner structures, silence and noise.
Positioned at the intersection of experimental, contemporary, and improvised music, BOW has developed a singular sonic identity — one that is responsive to space, rooted in sound itself, and finely attuned to the subtle dynamics of ensemble playing.
Their eponymous debut LP was released on Sub Rosa and received international praise:
“Its slow majestic flow reminded me also of Arvo Pärt. From these four releases, this would be the one to return to for repeated playing.” — Vital Weekly
“The quintet delves deeper in hopes of emerging stronger, not from certainty but from the acceptance of uncertainty.” — Closer Listen
